It might not have been the best season in Butte Cobras history, but it was exciting. The Cobras wrapped up their year with a thrilling come-from-behind 5-4 overtime win on Saturday against the Helena Bighorns.
With recent restrictions lowered the season finale saw a good sized crowd at Butte Community Ice Center. Fans were treated to free admission courtesy of Pioneer Concrete & Fuel.
Helena scored first, but Luke Schleusner tied the game for Butte at the 13:14 mark of the opening period. The Bighorns would answer and take a 2-1 lead to intermission.
In the second period Helena would take command, scoring twice on 24 shots. The Bighorns also held Butte to just 13 shots taking a 4-1 lead into the final frame.
The deficit could have been much greater if not for the efforts of goaltender Skyler Coard who made some incredible saves. He would finish the game with 61 saves.
The stage was now set for a classic sports moment. Pavel Gerasimenko made it 4-2 early in the third before Zane Cluphf got the Cobras within a goal at the 10:09 mark.
With the minutes ticking away it was veteran Randy Yeakley who tied the game with just 2:18 to go in regulation.
Both teams had opportunity in the overtime, but it was Nick Bradshaw and Robin Bagley who finished off the comeback.
